I've been praised for having a sharp memory, but I'm having difficulty recalling whether it has been 35 or 36 days since William was here. Oh, I don't mean here in this barren room. I meant here by my side.
It might sound as though I miss that man's presence. Be assured, I do not miss him. The very concept appalls me. However, when I sit and confer with those idiots who own this building, I must admit... I prefer William's presence over theirs. He, at least, has some wits about him. Intelligent. Sharp. Lunatic. An appealing combination, is it not?
After a morning meeting with the said idiots, I've been sitting here making the chair creak. It has decent cushions, but I don't really care about it right now. My mind wanders. It's a shame that all my senses have been heightened to the point of distracting my thoughts. A little sound here, a bit of flash there... all enough to snap me out of inner discourse. I've closed my eyes. My hearing has been shut down. Focus.
William said that Umbrella will take the G from him. I told him "of course." He's no idiot and neither am I. That masterpiece of his is much too potent to remain in the hands of an individual. Well, considering my recent plight, I might argue otherwise. -My- masterpiece has been serving me quite well. Power is sweet indeed. Perhaps... William will see it fit to join me here. If he can get that wife of his to agree or drop dead. Ah, Annette. I wonder how little Sherry is doing? If the girl has half the intellect of her father I would be happy to mess wit her mind. Too bad her mother does not let me within a mile of her.
Something creaked in the floor above. I almost stared, but refused to be diverted. My thoughts must remain at my leisure. William. Yes, think of him. What did he say again?
// Tap, tap, tap. //
...Wonderful. The idiots must be back. I suppressed the urge to tell them to go; it wouldn't do to be rude to my employers, would it? T-enhanced or not, I enjoy receiving my paychecks. And having a laboratory. Ah, William, you might find yourself at home here. I should send you an invitation.
One of the idiots came in and regarded me with those idiotically haughty eyes. I remained motionless in the chair, listening to its rhythmical creaking.
"It broke out in Raccoon City," he said.
Oh William. What have you done? I resisted the urge to grin or frown. I knew. William was most likely a dead man. A pity, really. I wanted to bicker with him in that large laboratory in the basement floor. Nice air conditioning and decent equipments. William, William...
"Will you go?"
I shook my head once, very definitely. If William managed to heighten his being to my level, he will seek me out regardless of what I do. If not... well, I don't find unintelligible mutations particularly attractive. So I closed my wandering thoughts and turned to the clear pane to my right. The window looked out to the city, contaminated and empty under the sun.
